Pineapple rum flambe

Pineapple is our favorite fruit for dessert. Pineapple is not only cheap but is believed to have many good health benefits. Ripe pineapples are rich and deep in flavor, we can enjoy the fruits plain as they are.

When we want to make something different and more interesting into pineapple pieces, doing flambe is a frequent choice. The taste of the pineappes is enhanced to be more flavorful and fragrant by the use of good quality butter, brown sugar and rum. Doing flambe makes a simple and plain fruit become really more elegant and up-standard.

Pineapple rum flambe

Doing this pineapple rum flambe is simple and fast. I always use fresh pineapples and I’ve never tried canned ones, so I am not so sure about the quality with canned fruits. Besides pineapples, only a little brown sugar is used to sprinkle the pineapple pieces and let stands for a few minutes. Then a little butter is heated in a large frying pan to fry the pineapple pieces until lightly brown. At this point, a little rum is poured in the frying pan and it should burn into big flame. This can be done easily and safely with a blow torch. Or you can tilt the frying pan a bit so that the gas flame can reach the alcohol inside the pan and make a burst of flames.

I also tried with absolute vodka vanilla instead of rum, and the taste was amazing too. Two alcohols bring in the pinapples two different and impressive taste and flavor. If possible, you are encouraged to try.

Instead of pineapples, when you have time, you can try banana, mango or peach cooked in this way, you’ll also have great desserst.
